This is the image for the news article titled January 2017 Foothills NewsletterWe are so pleased with the progress made by our students and the continued efforts of the Foothills staff. Nearly 40 more students have earned their high school diploma since September 2016. In our January 2017 newsletter you will see the joy of new graduates and learn more about our mentoring program.

The mentoring program led us to pilot an academic mentor program at Barrow Foothills this past fall. This academic mentor (tutor) was such a success that we are expanding the program to other sites later this month. The ease of piloting this program was due, in part, to our opportunity to consolidate state and federal funds (Title I). This consolidation expedited our access to funds to get the program started without the traditional wait-period associated with federal spending. Last year Foothills students did not score as well as we would like on the state’s End of Course tests. This pilot was one of our efforts to provide students with the additional support they requested in their weekly mentor meetings. The students asked and we listened.

We are excited about the opening of Morgan Foothills on January 11 and Glynn Foothills on January 17. We have hired the staff and recruited students in preparation to provide more opportunities for students in Georgia to earn a high school diploma. There is more expansion and replication activity planned for July 2017. We cannot wait to share more updated news.

Thank you for your continued interest in our Foothills work.
